Bug Description
I am running Linux Mint 12 (lisa) Gnome 64-bit. I updated everything on 1/3/2012.
Here's the problem:
I have a hidden SSID setup at home. So to connect I go to the wireless applet at the top right. I click Network Settings. I choose Wireless. Under Network Name I choose Other... and manually enter in the SSID and WPA2 Personal encryption key. At this point I am able to connect fine.
After rebooting, the computer attempts to connect automatically to this network. However instead of seeing the SSID in the network applet I see a strange symbol: Þ I should note that the SSID of my network is "222". Þ seems to be related to it somehow in unicode [LibreOffice Writer lists the symbol as U+00DE (222) in Insert Symbol...]. The computer is never able to connect to the network. Instead it says "Connecting..." It will ask for the key, but it still hangs.
I have tried Configure... in the Network Settings on Þ to rename the SSID, but the setting won't stick, no matter what I name it.
The only solution I have found is to manually add the network again. When I do this I then see a network with the correct SSID and still see the incorrect one. After reboot, that profile does the same thing (renames to Þ). So I end up with multiple profiles with a network named Þ. I always have this problem and I can always reproduce it.
