Bug Description

I'm running LMDE through a live environment via USB stick on a Lenovo S10-3T

Unfortunately I immediately ran into some issues, by default the touchpad was not configured to be used for mouse clicks- I eventually changed the settings via Mouse Preferences to enable mouse clicks on the touchpad. The S10-3 series however has some quirks that still exist with it's touchpad. On this netbook the touchpad space extends over the left and right-click space, the result I'm dealing with is that LMDE doesn't recognize those buttons. This is not something I encountered on UNR (the currently installed distro). The touchpad is recognized as a "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad."

A similar problem was first mentioned in the LMDE Bug Reports Thread, post #313767. Though that post was made without giving hardware specifics, it can be derived from the fact that this poster's machine ran LMDE via a livecd that it is not the same machine as this post, being as this post covers a netbook.

As this problem does not occur in the Main edition, but does occur under LMDE, I initially thought this then to be a issue with Debian. It looks like this bug however, also occurs in Ubuntu 10.10- See http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/621821

While this probably isn't helpful, I tested an install of LM Main- then swapped out the repos with those of Debian. I was able to use the touchpad with click functionality, but in some twisted hybrid bug the system would not recognize tapping on the touchpad as an alternative form of left click input, despite options being set for that.

I also have a SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad under LMDE. The tapping works under GDM, but not under Gnome. Initially, no tapping was possible at all, so I edited /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf to be the following:

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        Option "TapButton1" "1"
        Option "VertEdgeScroll" "1"
EndSection

This gives me tapping - but not under Gnome. Very anoying.

??? is it so difficult to sinchronize System settings and synclient options?
