Cannot import openvpn file in graphical interface

Linux Mint 17.3

Hi,

In order to secure my internet connection I make use of the vpn provider Cyberghost. They provide me with an .ovpn file and some certificates that allowed me to setup a vpn connection through the graphical interface of network-manager in ubuntu. Recently I switched to mint and when I try to import the .ovpn file I get the error that the file could not be read or does not contain recognized information (see attachment). I am, however, able to setup the vpn connection through the openvpn command in terminal. How can I solve this problem?

Very same here with Linux Mint 18.
Did work with 17.3.

Installed and updated Linux Mint 18 yesterday, and it fails to import my openvpn config files. These .ovpn files are generated by Sophus UTM i use at home, work and at customers for remote support. Version of network-manager-gnome package is 1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.4

These .ovpn files are verified OK since i use them daily on my win10 and mint 17.3 laptops when "in the field".

Guessing that the import function in network-manager was not updated to reflect the new field naming in the gui?

Yeah, I just switched to Linux Mint 18.1 from Ubuntu 16.10 and my .ovpn fails to import with the exact same output.

Confirmed, same issue here. I'm importing them from PFSENSE and am getting the same issue.

I am also unable to connect import a valid OpenVPN certificate using Mint 18.1. The certificate is export for an Asus router. the .opvn file looks like:
