It happens to me too.
But please note that in my case the Sleep from menu works!
Mint is apparently not detecting (?) the close lid event.
acpi_listen outputs nothing when I close the lid
(but neither when I go in suspend - be it with pm-suspend or kde menu sleep option (that also locks session, which is good)
dmesg also shows nothing on close lid, but it shows the
PM: Preparing system for mem sleep
[...]
PM: Finishing wakeup.

Please note that "When power button pressed" (KDE->System settings->Power Management->Energy Saving)
is also unmappable. That is is shuts down my laptop regadless of its setting from dropdown menu.
