Can not read top items in Menu launcher

Bug Description

When I click on Menu to launch programs I can not see the top items in a topic. For example, if I click on "internet" I can not see 'Chrome' the top item. This is when I am using just my laptop screen. when connected to an external monitor I can see the top items. This happens whether I use the 2d or 3d version of Cinnamon.

Ubuntu 13.04 reached EOL, tell if this issue is still present recent ubuntu versions still supported
