Bug Description

On most recent update 5 of Linux Mint Debian, updated from version 12.04.
Running on 1280/768 screen on somewhat ancient 32 bit Sony laptop TR1MP.

With almost all Appearance Styles, the axes on System Monitor are black. There is no other application I have yet used that has this problem. I reported this on the forum and one other person has reported the same problem (see http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=220&t=112939 )

I am currently using Adwaita. breybird was one of the few other styles that was OK. Almost all other styles create this problem.

I never had this problem before. I can't recall which style I used to use before update 5, for which I apologise. There's no way I can easily go back and test the previous version. I will attempt to run the DVD version of 12.04 to see if it's OK.

I have now run 12.04 from DVD, and this fault is definitely not present.

I am not sure how to get much more hardware information about my graphics driver. If relevant can someone tell me how to diagnose this further and I'll be happy to do so.

lspci gives:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

With help from the Linux Mint Debian forum I have solved this, or at least avoided the problem. It seems that "system monitor is gtk3.4 so needs a theme with proper gtk3.4 support (the new mint-x and adwaita have it), the other themes that you have installed (and that don't work properly) are either only gtk2 or gtk3.2 (like 5-6 months old themes)".

So Update 5 has let in a program (System Monitor) that is not compatible with all the themes installed with 12.04. By installing and using newer themes the problem can be avoided.

Whilst this is all OK, doesn't it slightly go against the grain of making such everything is compatible in a given stable release? I have not installed any extra themes other than those supplied on the DVD and in stable updates.

Anyhow, I don't suppose anything need be done, but I hope people searching for a solution find this report or the thread on the forum.
