[Lenovo Edge 11/13] Card reader does not work with any type of card

Bug Description

Cert testing Oneiric on this machine (201011-6822) and the card reader does not appear to work. I tried SD, SDHC and MMC cards and there was no indication of ANYTHING in dmesg at all.

lsusb doesn't seem to display any card reader specifically either.ubuntu@201011-6822:~$ lsusb

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the release candidate kernel versus the daily build. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

There doesn't seem to have a card reader device in both lsusb and lspci (The Qualcomm device in lsusb is a Gobi 2000), perhaps the hardware is not working or disabled in BIOS?

It's possible... however, Marc Legris will have to look at it. There is a slot, and I'm pretty sure that the card reader worked on those systems previously, which is why I was a bit confused this time around.

However, look at this info:

This is from a Natty certification run on that exact same system. You'll notice that Natty shows a card reader, where it is not there for Oneiric.

So the problem is either bad hardware, or disabled in BIOS (can you actually do that with card readers?) or something in Oneiric is broken WRT that particular reader.

Given that the card reader did work on the Edge 11 with Natty but did not work with Oneiric, my first inclination is an OS issue. However, I'd certainly not dismiss hardware at all, but that being said, the system really can't be certified if the hardware used to test with is broken.

Tried the 3.2 rc4 kernel, system still did not pick up the cards and I did not see anything related in dmesg. In the bios I did not see any options to disable/enable the card reader.

Can we test with natty again? Boot with a live image, then insert and remove [SD,SDHC,MMC] cards and see what kernel says in dmesg.

Looks like this one is card reader? This is not shown in the original dmesg though.
Does it work if mount manually?

Also, according to #5, this card reader should work with natty. To ensure that this isn't a hw issue, could you help to test with natty live image to see if it works?

I have a ThinkPad edge 13 and the card reader used to work fine, but now does not seem to work at all or sometimes only reports cards 5+ minutes after sticking them into the slot. I have not found out how to reproduce the late recognition.

syslog stays completely quiet during this delay.
