Startup/boot freezes after Grub menu

Bug Description
Binary package hint: usplash
After the Grub menu selection I get a terminal screen with the following information:
Boot from (hd0, 4) ext4 18ebd363-
Starting up...
And this freezes booting for about 1-2 minutes! After that time the Ubuntu loading screen appears and startup proceeds normally.
This never happened in previous Ubuntu versions.
