  I noticed lightdm seems to be lacking this feature.

Can you clarify the problem you are trying to solve with the simultaneous PAM conversations? The case the above branch is trying to solve is having multiple PAM authentication mechanisms that are initiated by an external event (e.g. smartcard, fingerprint).
