Bug Description
If the developer supplies a filename which is longer than ADJ_NAME_LEN, then we should return an error code, rather than silently truncating it.

Actually, for this, we shouldn't assign an artificial name length limit; file names can get quite long indeed.
I think this is only imposed at the Fortran interface layer, though.
