Bug Description
For spam reduction reasons, the Launchpad email interface is restricted to:
* Registered email addresses for emailing comments to <email address hidden>
* Registered+ GPG signed emails for status updates or new bugs via @bugs.launchpad.net
In the course of processing bug #769874, a Debian Developer (without a Launchpad account) was unable to email the bug report. In the interests of better communication between upstream and downstream, it would be useful to investigate methods that might allow better communication without risking an increase in general spam. A couple of options that come to mind would be importing
'debian-keyring' and grepping out all current '@debian.org' email addresses from that to add to the whitelist.
This is probably less of a technical issues and more of a political one; previous technical solutions (such as automatic creation of identities against 'debian/changelog' entries has not always been universally appreciated. Since all DDs are likely to have a valid and published GPG signing key, the existing restrictions on new bugs and status updates could continue to be enforced.
<ScottK> sladen: I'm pretty sure there was an existing bug about that. I know it's been discussed before.
<ScottK> It's possible it was just on mailing lists too though. I don't recall with certainty.
if it helps to jog anyone's memory.
