Bug Description

I have "Always subscribe me to mailing lists" set in <https://edge.launchpad.net/~mbp/+editemails>. jml just added me to a team. However, the mail Launchpad sent me says

---
Hello Martin Pool,

Jonathan Lange (jml) added you as a member of xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you would like to subscribe to the team list, use the link below
to update your Mailing List Subscription preferences.
 <https://edge.launchpad.net/people/+me/+editemails>

---

On visiting that page, it looks like I am already subscribed to the list. So maybe the mail template is just incorrect? Or maybe I really wasn't subscribed yet? I don't know.

The email does not know about your personal settings. The email is stating two things,
1) that there is a mailing list, and
2) that there you cna change you subscriptions

Even if you are automatically subscribed, you may choose to not subscribe to this team's list.

nb. I think this whole scenario is crack, I think all team members should always be subscribed to the list, users can leave teams if they do not want the emails. This also means communication teams should not be used in ACLs, but this has always been true.

I don't think this is incomplete so I reopened it.

I agree with you that this is crack and that if you're in a team you should get the mail.

However, until that is true, there is still a bug here that the mail template is poor and looks incorrect. It could be changed to eg

> To change whether or not you receive mail from this team's list, visit <https://edge.launchpad.net/people/+me/+editemails>

Changed in launchpad-registry:
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

What do you propose that it say since the email does not know what your settings are?

The text I proposed above does not make any assumption either way:
