Before submitting a bug in Malone, I generally try to search if no such bug has already been reported, but Malone has failed me many times recently leading me to reports duplicate (that I promptly marked as such) as it said that no bugs was found for the package I was trying to report bug against, but once the bug was reported, I saw that there was many bugs against the package in the recently reported bug box (in the bottom right corner).
Generally, my operation mode for searching possible duplicate before reporting a bug is :
1. I click on Distributions
2. I choose Ubuntu
3. I enter the package name in the search box (for exemple gconf-editor)
4. I click on the Bugs link on the top right box
5. I look in the list of bugs, and as I don't find a bug corresponding to my bug I click on Report a bug link
6. I enter information about my bug
7. I'm redirected to the new bug page
When reaching this page, the bottom right box contains the list of the most recently reported bug against this package. And there are many bugs that I was not able to find during step 5 ! And more than once, I find that my bug is a duplicate and mark it as such.
I think this is really annoying as it waste both my time (I report a bug that has already been reported) and developpers (since I can't close my bug, even if I can mark it as duplicate) that will have to handle many duplicates. |
A distro release source package bugs page should contain a prominent link to the corresponding distro source package bugs page. Something like:
These are just the bugs nominated for fixing in <distro release name>.
__All bugs in <distribution> <package>__
Similarly, a distro release bugs page should contain a prominent link to the corresponding distribution bugs page. |
