launchpad doesn't show all bugs

Bug Description

I am subscribed to and have commented on (& supplied a patch for) bug 121476. It doesn't appear in the list of bugs for me under any search I managed to create. I am using edge.launchpad.net but haven't tested on the normal version as the button to disable edge seems to be gone from the launchpad homepage and I keep getting redirected to edge. See here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/~sambrightman

Hi Sam,

By default, Launchpad omits Invalid and Won't Fix bugs when listing them. The bug you've mentioned, bug 121476, is Won't Fix, and I was able to see it among the bugs related to you by selecting Advanced Search and choosing Won't Fix status. Knowing that, are you still having the issue?

Thanks

Okay, I missed that - I can see it through the advanced search you suggest. I guess I will have to go to that bug itself to ask why a bug affecting core functionality in the default configuration is marked wishlist, and why it is WONTFIX despite me supplying a patch to allay upstream's objections. Some less bitchy points that are more relevant here:

There was not a clear way for me to know or discover this behaviour - isn't that the definition of bad UI? At the minimum, I would expect a little text/link/tickbox saying "invalid or won't fix bugs are hidden" or some such thing. I click "all related bugs" and I don't get them! :)

Further, I'm not convinced that this is an especially good default. Bugs that are on several packages (or have been moved between packages) and are marked invalid on only one of them don't appear in the listing despite the fact that they are actually still perfectly valid. This is true of a few of mine. I have even noticed that one of them has been incorrectly marked invalid on edgy, and so is not showing up on my listing by default (I really mean, objectively, that it is incorrectly marked: it is a bug in the whole series of releases, the comments confirm it is still present in edgy, and some fool has marked it invalid there). There is another example of a bug that was reported, went through the normal process, was fixed but incorrectly nominated for a certain milestone and marked invalid there. So it doesn't appear. There is also the case of the bug I mentioned in my report, where - although it is possibly a matter of opinion about status and validity - the bug vanishes by default making it harder for it to be discussed further.

Another person thinks that "all" should mean all not "nearly all".

The bug is very annoying as developers choose (or launchpad force them) to set duplicated bugs as invalid (What is another launchpad bug).

Not convinced about the duplicate status here - if someone wants to append "by default" to the title then go for it, I consider this bug to be both about the duplicate (lack of information/discoverability) and, separately about the bad default. Wanting to see all bugs seems like a common use case that is easily solved by showing all bugs when the user clicks all bugs.
