Duplicate error "not a valid bug number or nickname" when nicknames are defunct

Bug Description

1. Try to mark this bug report as a duplicate of bug 9999999999999999.

What happens: "The following errors were encountered: 9999999999999999 is not a valid bug number or nickname."

What should happen: "Hang on, 9999999999999999 isn't a valid bug number."

As far as I can tell, Launchpad doesn't have bug nicknames any more.

nickname are used by the bug importer. We do not permit The UI to create them. While the message is technically correct, I think we expect users who want to mark something as a duplicate to only use numbers.

Here's a related experience you may consider, if you're fiddling with that message. Duping a bug recently, I forgot to switch tabs, and accidentally put a bug's own number into the "mark as a duplicate of" field. I got the error message you guys are describing, "not a valid number or nickname". So I have a minor concern with the "not a valid number" part.

In my case, I didn't realize my error yet, and was briefly confounded by the error message. I knew it was a valid number; I had just copied it out of an existing bug report. Then I realized I was duping a bug to itself. Evidently LP has code to recognize that situation. If the error message could reflect that knowledge, and say "that's the number of this bug!", rather than generically "not a valid number", that would be great.

(Suggestions to file another bug, or directions to the relevant place in the code, are welcome.) Thanks.
