build log status is limited by characters, not by lines

Bug Description
when looking at the build status of a running build, you often can't see the last complete line. apparently the view to the log is limited to a fixed amount of characters. It really should be limited to some last lines, like 3 or 5.

The length of a line is unbounded, so we cannot guarantee even a single entire line. But we could perhaps increase the limit when long lines are encountered.
