PCBNew crashes when attempting to copy anything to the clipboard

Bug Description
Most of the time KiCad crashes without any error message. One time I had an error message saying something to the effect that it failed to copy something and then it crashed. I verified it on tracks, vias and footprints.

@Art, if you go to: https:/ /github. com/KiCad/ kicad-source- mirror/ graphs/ commit- activity <https:/ /github. com/KiCad/ kicad-source- mirror/ graphs/ commit- activity> you’ll see that there was a big hump in activity about a week and a half ago. That means a bunch of work was checked in, and we’re now seeing the fallout from that. It should settle down soon (at least until the next big hump).
