1. Add these 2 drawing sizes to the standard list. These are the actual sizes of the corresponding page sizes in PowerPoint. They are visible in that application only after the page size is selected. A4, for instance, shows 297mm x 210mm, but there is a
fixed in stone set of margins which are subtracted off to give the real page size.

PowerPoint A4 10.83" x 7.5"
PowerPoint Letter/Screen 10 x 7.5"

2. provide a method for adding custom page sizes, permanently, to the standard list. At present the user can use custom, save the SVG, and use that as the starting SVG for a new drawing. That works, but it is clunky. It would be better if custom sizes could be given names and added to the list. This information could be stored in the same place other program settings
are maintained.

This should really only be one request and that would be adding custom sizes permanently. By implementing the ability to add them, it takes care of your first request. "Powerpoint" paper sizes aren't real standards in the world and do not deserve to clutter up our page sizes menu... basically if we go there, we have to add tons of specialty stuff for all kinds of proprietary software that most of our users don't use.

Duplicate of Bug #171808 in Inkscape: “Saving/Removing page format presets”?

ScislaC: agreed, wish 2 is sufficient for end user to attain wish 1. PPT page sizes are not standards like A4 is, but that application is so common that it's (broken) page sizes are almost a de facto standard.

This is not an exact duplicate of bug 171808. That one has adding custom sizes (duplicate) and removing standard page sizes (not suggested here).

I think it is a bad idea to let users modify the standard page sizes, but they should be able to add/modify/remove custom page sizes. If users can modify standard page sizes they are going to forget that they did so, and then have all sorts of odd glitches later on when what they think they are working on an A4 drawing (for instance) when it actually isn't. I just wasted lots of time with a similar issue in PowerPoint (where A4 is not actually A4).

If you think it is beneficial to keep the discussion separated in two reports, without interaction, rather than discussing the scope of a function to add/remove page presets there… that's up to you.
