Bug Description
Hello, I have the devel 10518 on windows seven.
When I tried to use the measurement tool with a path , previous converted from a text I don` t have any measure on the canvas.
How to reproduce it.
Draw a simple letter A for example on the canvas and use the measurement tool( is working perfect)
Duplicate the letter and transform with SHIFT+CTRL+C , use now the measurement tool, (is not working properly)

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48+devel r10520 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386)
The measure tool doesn't work on groups (text converted to path results in a group of individual paths [1]).
Ungroup the converted text to measure the paths for the individual converted letters (or enter the group with a double-click or ctrl+enter).

Since the measure tool is new and there is no blueprint available for planned or supported features, marking as 'Wishlist' for now.
