Bug Description

Hi,

inkscape 0.47 now uses the inferior windows filepicker which doesn't even support bookmarks. This is is a major slowdown, because one usually saves to more than one filetype in more than one location. Please make the gtkfilechooser available again.

Thanks

I guess it's a matter of taste, because I still like the native dialog better because it integrates better with Windows. Recently, some effort was put into it to make it work with Windows Vista (and 7 I suppose), which has a revamped dialog with new options. Also, there was a bug report somewhere that seemed to point out that the GTK filechooser didn't correctly see special drives (if I remember correctly it was a network drive).

My opinion is that this dialog has to stay since I consider it far superior to the GTK one. Or make it an option.

PS: I'm aware that you can't added custom shortcuts to the left sidebar, is the same for Vista/7? This [1] is a solution that might work for you.

Let me clarify this :) The integration problem with GTK filechooser is the fact that it doesn't let me use the typical Windows contextual menu.

@Pablo Trabajos your solution about setting shortcuts in windows is good but.. not good enough...
for example, xp doesn't allow me unlimited shortcuts... while in gtk i usualy have about 20 directories...
the second thing is that configuration in windows is a bit... difficult for people that aren't advanced in administration taskts...
the third thing is that i have never had any problem with gtkfilechooser dialog on windows with either, network drives or removable media like flash drive..
true is that gtkfilechooser in inkscape is/was a bit slow, the same problem occurs in gimp, but they fixed that, so maybe you could check out what did they modified...?

I'm not a programmer so I can't change it. I was just voicing my opinion. I vote for the better integration with the OS, and personallly I don't like the gtk filechooser much, not even when I was using linux. Since it has been already changed from GTK to the native windows one, I would vote for keeping it or making it an option, but going back to GTK only goes against my use case.

oh, then, sorry, i miss understood You, but i understand that many peoples = many possibilities, many options.. ok so then, i would vote for make a "swich/option" to have windows or gtkfilechooser :)

Yes, adding an option in the preferences looks possible.
To be debated.
