Custom icon view background color

Bug Description

It would be perfect to have option to paint icon view window color to custom color. While inkscape is really great icon design application, icon artist needs to use other software for such simple (and common) task as previewing icon on various background color.

Ideally, the default predefined background colors could be black and white, while different shades of grays could be customarily selected.

It's extremely simple to have a background color preview in the icon view using a layer.
Just create a layer and send it to the back, and create a square of the size of the icon area. That way you can preview any background color you want and you just have to toggle off the visibility of that layer (or just remove it) when you're done.
I don't think it is worth to add an extra feature. It's something easily achievable with the current tools and it doesn't require a lot of steps.

While it's true that it can be achieved, is it really the best way. My point of view is: whenever you can do stg without modifying document itself, do it that way!

Mmmm, I tend to agree, but the workaround is so simple that I don't thin it is worth to add a new feature. My concern is that adding so many small features will turn Inkscape into a bloated beast (something very common in proprieatary software).
Anyway it seems a valid feature request.
