The same issue happens for me, and the stutter occurs every time exactly when the graph updates. It is visible also in e.g. moving windows around or scrolling in Firefox.

I'm using AMD Radeon GPU, I've attached system/package information saved from ubuntu-bug.

Looks like there is also new activity on the long standing bug report on the Ubuntu package bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-multiload/+bug/784055

As a temporary workaround one can disable all graphs, and configure to have just one indicator item that shows cpu load as text instead.

Debugging is further compilicated by the Ubuntu package having a quite old version of the indicator-multiload code, which doesn't even build with the version of vala available in Ubuntu 20.04.

Having the same issue all the time. Most visible when scrolling or watching videos. If I close the indicator, stuttering is gone.

Glad to verify this bug, as the stuttering was driving me CRAZY since I just upgraded to 20.04. Will stop using indicator-multiload for the time being.

For me, the symptoms are:
1) the graphical interface is practically unusable (refresh every 10s);
2) gnomeshell is consuming an incredible amount of memory (beyond 12GB) and swapping;

System:

Just made a fresh install of Focal and I confirm the bug.

For me, it happens with Kodi and SMPlayer, the video lags with the pulsing of 'System Load Indicator'.

However when I enter fullscreen mode, the playback is back to normality.

The problem is gone after disabling the autostart and closing the Indicator.

Running AMD graphics.
