Bug Description

After upgrading Ubuntu to 14.04 I noticed that the time is often not updating in Unity.

The output of the date command is correct and updating. I also have automatic time update configured in the time settings.

If I kill the indicator-datetime-service process the time indicator updates to the right value, then it changes seconds once or twice, but then it immediately freezes again.

I connected to it using strace but it seems frozen.

While frozen, the time and date settings will not appear while opened from the time and date applet. The time is correct inside the multi-timezone view.

My settings can be seen in the screenshot attached to this bug. I can provide more debugging information upon request.

I am running:

Ubuntu 14.04

unity:
  Installed: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2
  Candidate: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2

indicator-datetime:
  Installed: 13.10.0+14.04.20140415.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 13.10.0+14.04.20140415.3-0ubuntu1

Thank you for your bug report. Do you use EWS calendars? that could be a duplicate of bug #1311213

Hello,

I do use EWS, but I don't understand what does that have to do with
displaying the clock.

I will look into the bug #1311213 maybe I can figure it out.

Thanks!

Do you get the correct values by repeatedly calling:
 gdbus call --session --dest com.canonical.Unity.Panel.Service.Desktop --object-path /com/canonical/Unity/Panel/Service --method com.canonical.Unity.Panel.Service.SyncOne 'com.canonical.indicator.datetime

No, I get the same value that's stuck when looking at the panel.

I updated evolution-data-server from the ppa:mo42/private PPA and so far it looks good.

I will report back in a couple of days in case the problem persists.

Thanks, it would be better if you could test the official proposed update rather than the ppa though, that way you could help confirm the update is good and can be published as a stable update for the benefit of all Ubuntu users

Please provide instructions on how to install that update. On the other bug the only place where I could find packages was that PPA.

So far the update I did from that PPA seems to work fine, I didn't see any freezes ever since.

Thanks for testing and confirming it works! It looks like the official update didn't get approved yet, the other bug is going to be updated with instructions once that happens
