I tested the fax on your fiile CTS.pdf both with cups vesion 1.4.3 and 1.4.5 and encoding set to MMR with our latest 3.11.7 release The ouput is fine and same for both cups version i.e. we have not been able to reproduce the defect. HPLIP 3.11.7 will be avaliable for download shortly and you can try sending fax using the latest release. If still problem persists you can get back to us.
Further if you want u can try installing cups 1.4.3 instead of 1.4.5 on current 3.11.5 hplip version. You don't have to remove other packages it will remain intact. We will tell you steps for that.
Then first download the following four packages for mandriva 2010.2 and install the packages in the following order to avoid dependency problems. (assuming you have 32 bit sys otherwise install corresponding packages for 64 bit)
You keep cups 1.4.3 and try installing HPLIP 3.11.7. Meanwhile u can post hp-check -t output.
Also attach scanned copy of Printer status report by pressing "settings" button on the pannel and selecting first option. It will have some fields like Firmware version, and other fax related fields
Also run fax test report. To run it press "setup" or "settings" button on the panel(bottom left second button, a tool like structure is printed over it). Then go to Tools menu and select "Run Fax Test" post the output here.
