Bug Description
Printer support for the CP1700 does not appear to be correct. Jobs which will run cleanly on other HP devices via HPIJS cause a backend crash in foomatic and pstops (as reported in the logs):

From what I can further determine with the limited debug information that is published, this appears to be a parameter mismatch between the hpijs driver and the printer itself. Interestingly enough, if the CP1700 is substituted to a Business Inkjet 1100 (same basic print engine) and nothing else is changed, the jobs run cleanly with no errors of any sort.
I have verified this with numerous kernels, and distros, but went to the most current Slackware, 12.0, and tested "right out of the
box" since Slackware now comes with HPLIP. The base release is still problematic, and an upgrade to the current 2.8.2 release has not shown much, if any imporovement (this bug is against 2.8.2, but the problem appears to have been in existence since around 1.2.4 or so - when this printer was initially deployed, things worked, and as hplip updates were installed, the problem appeared.
hp-check output is attached, and any additional tests desired can be run as needed . . . ironically, the job that is crashing as I write this report is the test page generated by hplip . . . . but I cannot determine what distinguises a job that will run from a job that will not, although it appears that only postscript input is affected - plain text always works, and postscript is a variable . . .

It's been about 4 months - does anyone care enough about this to even look at it?
