Bug Description
I'm using Ubuntu LTS 16.04 which uses hplip version 3.16.3. Printer does not print (i.e. nothing happens and printer state is shown as unchanging "Processing - Processing page 1...". Printer printed Ok with Ubuntu LTS 14.04 i.e. using an old version of hplip. I've tried versions of hplip up to 3.17.10 (using the Automatic Installer) and none allow printer to print.
Till Kamppeter (Ubuntu's Cups support person on Launchpad) states:
The problem is the following: HPLIP's "hp" CUPS backend reports:
D [17/Oct/
This means one of the following:
- Your printer is out of paper
- Your printer has a hardware problem
- The "hp" CUPS backend has a bug
Printer is not out of paper and I don't think there is a hardware problem: printer switches on Ok and Ubuntu connects to it Ok. Conclusion is therefore that problem is with hplip.
Attached are results of "hp-check -t".
Hi John,
HPLIP has supported the HP Deskjet 2540 printer and it works well with the 3.17.10 driver and also from the previous drivers.
Thanks,
Afshan
