Bug Description

When the GUI finds and then tries to add the printer, there is an error message that it cannot set up the fax because it cannot find HP-Fax4-hpcups.ppd.gz. HP-Fax4-hpcups.ppd is located in /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP, but there is not file with .gz. All I did was compress HP-Fax4-hpcups.ppd to HP-Fax4-hpcups.ppd.gz and put the file in the same directory and it added the fax after I cancelled and restarted the GUI. Maybe the better solution would be to have the software look for the .ppd file opposed to the missing .gz file.

Can you tell which Linux distro you are using and how you installed hplip.

Greetings Gaurav,

Actually, I've been mostly running distros live via USB. I was last using
Ubuntu Mate and had this experience, but ignored it because, really, I
don't have a telephone line connected. But, I just installed the latest
Mint 17.2 Cinnamon to disk and the same problem surfaced and, being sick
and having time, I thought I would try to resolve it. My guess is that it
is common with Ubuntu based distros. I don't have much experience with the
others. On some non-Ubuntu distros, I couldn't figure out how to get the
scanner to work and left after making an exerted effort of forum reading,
Googling, and IRC. The simple fix I listed allowed the GUI to install the
fax drivers. Since I don't know the code, I don't know if it's easier to
include the extra .gz file or just look for the .ppd. I assumed looking for
the .ppd would be the proper way to go.

Affects me on kubuntu 15.04.
I also did this to make Fax printing work with a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600:
cd /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP
sudo gzip HP-Fax4-hpcups.ppd
