wish: budget configurable for different year

Bug Description

If in January I update my budget forecast for the new year, the new budget is taken as a reference also for the previous year expenses. For example this makes it impossible to to know in June 2010 if my June 2009 expenses were below or above the June 2009 budget.
Probably the "edit budget" window should contain a field "Year" to help set a different budget for different years.

This is an improve to be done (yearly budget)
In waiting, you can export/import budget as/from csv file.

Changed in homebank:

status: New → Confirmed

Thanks for the answer, I understood later that it was more a wish than bug. I'll do the import/export you suggested meanwhile.

Very interesting. Actually I was using HomeBank and I needed a monthly budget. I mean, once I'm in the current month (or just before starting it) I would like to "freeze" the budget for the current month. For me the current way of defining a budget looks more like a good layout for the future budgets, though the real budget will be tweaked and "established" (saved) at the begining of the month. The Budget Report, of course, should work against the established report. If there's no establishged report, then a message should appear stating that a budget needs to be established for the Budget Report to work.

Just my wish :)

Is it at all possible, when creating budgets, to make the budgeting period "Fortnightly". My reasons for this are that we are Pensioners and we are paid fortnightly so our budgeting needs to be done every two weeks so that we can see if we're going to starve during the second week (only joking).

Most pensioners like us in Australia are paid every two weeks. Just a thought.

Have been using Homebank for a long time and wouldn't use anything else now, brilliant.

Additional for this wish, in stead of a yearly budget, would it be possible to have budgets for non-overlapping periods? So you could say budget-01 is from 2017-01 - 2017-05 and the next budget is 2017-06 without end-date.

So determining underbudget or overbudget would be depending on the date of the expense or income category.

In summary: a budget for a specific period.

P.S. This is probably not easy to combine with the Australian wish of pensionators to make the minimum of a one or two week period, but ..... who knows.

Budget features are pretty lacking and their usage are very limited. It would be useful to have budgets not only on a per-month-basis, but also for weeks or days or for any entry in a given category (useful for occasional jobs for example), and not only of fixed or predetermined amounts, but also using percentages (e.g. 10% of every income will be budgeted for paying the house loan or will go in a fund for a holiday, this might even be accomplished by treating budget funds as special accounts). There should also be an indication of the budgeted amount when viewing accounts summaries, maybe with a toggle to show/hide the budgeted amount for each account individually, so in case of not treating the budgeted money as if it were a separate account, the toggle would enable to view the grand total of all accounts and the totals of each account with or without the budgeted money.

On the manage budget window, it would be nice if there was a way to change the budget year you are editing. It would also be great if it were possible to have different budgets for different years, just like it is possible to have different amounts for each month. Thanks for considering this feature. I love your software and have been using it for years. Keep up the great work!

Having the ability to have and reference my previous years budgets as well as set future years would be amazing, especially to help spot trends over the years.

Entering budget info can be tedious, but the results that follow become very useful & insightful for the user. Programming a more feature-rich one into HomeBank will not be an easy task though! Your effort to keep HomeBank useful yet user-friendly is much appreciated Maxime.

My 'budget' feedback for what it's worth:
----------------------------------------
Entering a new budget each year from scratch was a bugbear I found with the previous package I used and it fell out of use for me because of that reason.
Hence if the budget is associated with a year (or some date range), it would also be good to be able to 'copy' the current budget into a new one which you can then update rather than having to enter every $ amount for every category/subcategory again. Just updating the ones you need to would then be a much quicker exercise as well as providing you an indication of what the "last budget's value" was as a prompt for what might it change by. Hope that's understandable gooble-de-kook!
Probably doable with export/import at least in the short-term, but would be easier for the user interface to have a "create new budget from [selected] past budget" button which you then somehow update the date/year/date-range for before it can be saved - then as the user you can update the values as required.
