Bug Description

When viewing the "create budget" tab, I would like to see the overall amount per category when grouping all of them. As of now, when grouping all categories, they all show 0 value.
eg. I want to see the total revenues per month as grouped.

I have noticed this too when I group my accounts. This only seems to be the case for accounts that have a different currency from my default currency though.

not sure to locate where you are, or you are not talking the same: Manage budget ?
as you cannot group account in manage budget.
this is a contribution, I didn't checked in depth or use myself

@Emilien: if this is the manage budget window, each level1 can also have its own input, that comes to addition of the level2

I'm indeed talking about the "manage budget" area. If you group all
categories it will show up zero values everywhere as it doesn't summarize
subcategories.

ok, this is as I said previously:

this dialog is a contribution (not my code)
each level1 can also have its own input, that comes to addition of the level2
=> in your 2nd image, you can input budget for parent auto/moto category as well

when you collapse a level1, only the level1 input remains visible which are empty in your use case.
for now it seems difficult to display a sum of level 2 and the distinct level1 input in the same line

so you cannot display the sum here and also let the user input
need to think of an additional line maybe to sum

Would it be an issue if you changed the code so that we could not enter input in level1? In that case level1 would only be an addition of level2 entries.

yes, it will be a regression, since the ability to enter at level 1 was there from the beginning, users are probably using it.
So disabling this capability is not an option, as it will be a breaking change.

I too would like to see total amounts for each main category on the Budget Table view. But I understand the issue of needing to show/set an amount for the main category itself, separate from the amounts of any sub-categories...

I can think of two possible options to address this:

1. Display a Total *row* at the bottom of each expanded category that shows the total for the main and any sub-categories. One problem with this approach however is that the total would only be visible when the main category is expanded...
E.g.: https://imgur.com/a/MhffRTd

2. Display a new Total *column* that shows the total for the main and any sub-categories. This would be visible regardless of whether the main category was expanded or not, so I think it is the better approach. It would obviously only show a value in the main category row, not the sub-category rows.
E.g.: https://imgur.com/a/Yn3Riut

For both of these options, the Total should be the combination of the main category and any sub-categories. So for the example screenshots, the Total for Automobile would show $325 ($150 + $75 + $100), while the Total for Bank Charges would show $19 ($12 + $5 + $2).

Hope that helps.

Finally it make sense to sum cat with subcat, so that when collapsed, the view will be accurate.

I take the assumption here people using budget on cat and subcat will be a minor usage, which may be wrong.
Anyway, to keep distinguish if a cat have a budget or not, despite their subcat have, I will also add the budget icon + bold text in summary view.

Renommez votre fichier de capture sans espace, ni accents, il y a un bug lanchpad toujours en cours.

For the record, and as I may foresee what the capture will show:
I have added the total ONLY for the column it was possible:
- Total annual
- Monthly average

As other columns (each month) are editable, it is not possible to dual display here, as I mention earlier in the ticket.
