Bug Description

I can use gtk-recordmydesktop to record my current session but none of the sounds produced by the system are recorded in the .ogv output as expected with the default settings.

I have installed recordmydesktop 0.3.7.3-1 and gtk-recordmydesktop 0.3.7.2-2ubuntu2

I'm having a similar issue using gtk-recordmydesktop on Karmic. I can record video, but cannot access the "Advanced Settings" dialog to set the sound device for recording. Was able to get audio by running recordmydesktop from the command line using:

recordmydesktop --device hw:1,0

Determined my hardware device using "aplay -l" using the following format:

hw:[card number],[device number]

I have just come across this issue when using gtk-recordmydesktop on Ubuntu 9.10.

To fix the issue go to the advanced settings dialogue and select the Sound tab. In the device field enter 'pulse' (without the quotes). Close the dialogue and restart gtk-recordmydesktop.

You should then be able to record sound as long as the default recording device in pulse is set appropriately. To do this, right click on the speaker icon (in the top right corner, by the date), select 'Sound Preferences', then select the 'Input' tab. Select the appropriate input device and make sure the the volume is turned up and it is not muted.

David A. Meyer, it looks like the issue where the advanced dialogue failed to open (Bug #447011) was fixed on 2009-10-15, so if you update, and try that again, it should work.

Dominic Evans, as Ubuntu 9.10 ships with pulseaudio as default. Is it suitable to patch gtk-recordmydesktop so that it uses the pulse device as default?
