Bug Description
I have the following 4 port USB 3 PCI-e bus/controller device:
03:00.0 USB controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VL80x xHCI USB 3.0 Controller (rev 03)
If I connect my LUKS encrypted WD 1 TB external HDD device, using an USB 3 cable, it will freeze the computer, or won't boot, if it was plugged in.
If I don't plug anything to that USB 3 bus, it will not make any trouble, so the PCI-e card itself is not a problematic, what's more, it is working with exactly the same setup for Windows 7. Furthermore, another USB 2 Linux laptop can use that external HDD without problems.
On boot time, it writes this (sdb is an old PATA 300GB HDD, sdc is the mentioned 1 TB WD external HDD):
sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] No Caching mode page present
sd 7:0:0:0: [sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
And this (I had an USB 2 pendrive connected, the cable can't be wrong, I was run it as a live Ubuntu a minute ago):
usb 1-1-port3: cannot reset port 5 (err = -110)
[... 5 times the previous ...]
usb 1-1-port3: Cannot enable port 5. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
Should I add something to /etc/fstab, or how can this be solved?
Thank you!
