Bug Description

Hi,

I know that this bug has been filed a year back and i apologize for that. However, the condition that i am facing now is slightly different from the previous bug filed.

When i hold down the spacebar for a short period of time, the preview opens and closes normally. I assume the timer works good here.

But if i hold my spacebar and let it remain pressed until (lets say, a few seconds) after the preview closes, then multiple previews are spawned very very quickly.

IMO, maybe the number of previews allowed open should be limited to one only.

OR, a more complex solution would be to keep the preview open as long as the spacebar is pressed for more than *2 seconds and remains pressed. Once it is released, the preview closes.

This would allow 2 methods to open previews:
1) Holding the spacebar (for longer than *2 seconds) to open the preview and letting go to close the preview
2) Tapping the spacebar once to open the preview and tapping it again to close the preview (Like in Macs)

Personally i would love it if the method 1 can be implemented.

Thank you so much for the great application.

I'm afraid that solution 1 is hard to achieve without modifing nautilus...

anyway solution 2 is the default behaviour, you can press space to open a preview, and then, space again to close it (or using the x (or usgin the menu))

I think the problem you say is that when you keep space pressed in nautilus, multiple previews are lauched right? but isn't this the normal behaviour? I mean, if you keep enter pressed in a file, doesn't the file open multiple times?

Hey there.

I personally think method 1 would be more practical. Lets just say you would like to show a friend some pictures. I wouldn't like to hold the spacebar all the way. Its redundant i think.

Method 2 is much better. One tap and preview it forever. Just like the Mac.

In addition, i realize that larger files take a much longer time for the preview to load. PDFs too take a longer time to load.

And also as a suggestion, is there a way you could probally enable copying the text from the previewed .doc or .txt etc? That would be sweet and so convenient!

Thats my two cents, and yes, great software mate!

I've looked into it and yes, files do open multiple times when i hold the enter button down.
but nautilus instantly closes the extra files automatically, leaving only one window open. I tried it with .jpg and .txt files.

though i don't know if its just my computer.

it kind of only affects first time users. after one knows not to hold the spacebar down, it wouldnt affect anyone at all.
anyway its not totally necessary to iron this out. but doing so would make it a more flawless piece of software.

if you do choose to solve this, maybe the number of previews opened at any one time should be limited to one. that is if it doesnt affect functionality.

Thanks.

@thasban - text can be copied by highlighting, right clicking and copy in the previews in my comp.

Hey!

Open just one preview is not a good idea I think, sometimes I use to have more than one opened to see diferences in images.. files etc..

About selecting a text, this only works in source files and plain text files

is it really a bug? i mean hey what happen if i click many times on an icon in nautilus? it open as many times as i clicked
except some programs like gimp or firefox who check if their process are running. If we want to find out a solution to this "behavior" (not really a bug) we have to analyse gimp or firefox source code.

I think they use something like a singleton for an app, but this won't solve a one preview x file at time... it would only solve one preview at time...

I'm with kitkat, is not really a bug, I never keep space pressed...

Is this is something you could use: http://live.gnome.org/LibUnique
But I do think this is a bug. If you try to open the same file twice
it should focus on the currently open preview that is showing that
file.
