Bug Description

i installed gdesklets in my ubuntu 9.04 and when i start it in terminal i get an error:

bash: /usr/bin/gdesklets: /usr/bin/python2.5: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

when i start it from the accessories menu i get an error message:

Failed to execute child process "gdesklets" (No such file or directory)

i attached a screenshot of the error message i get with this bug report.
python 2.6 is included in ubuntu 9.04 and gdesklets looks for python 2.5 i think that should be the cause of the error.

This topic has been reported on launchpad several times before, like e.g.:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdesklets/+bug/350562
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdesklets/+bug/350562

and even on the ubuntu list:

So, please do some research on the internet before opening a new bug.

when i reported the bug i didnt see any similar bugs suggested by launchpad
and so i reported a new bug.now i see that they are closed with status "fix
released".
if a fix is released then why do i get an error now.

1. This is not a gDesklets problem but an ubuntu problem. So please report the bug in the appropiate ubuntu bugtracker, like e.g.: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdesklets

2. Please take a further look at the links I have posted above.

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdesklets/+bug/344079 it says (for 9.10):
"FYI, it's fixed in future 9.10 (karmic):"

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdesklets/+bug/350562 it says (for 9.04):
"I tried creating a symlink to python2.6 as python2.5, but gdesklets didn't run. Installing python2.5 fixed it."

The fix has been committed to the gDesklets source code. This is what we are talking about in here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdesklets -> Bugs in gDesklets)
.
If ubuntu (or any other distribution) isn't fixing it or hasn't fixed it yet you will have to ask about it there (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdesklets -> Ubuntu >> “gdesklets” package >> Bugs).

We (usually) do not provide distribution dependent files/packages.

By the way: we haven't set the status to "fix released" (yet). In gDesklets the status is still "fix committed" (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdesklets/+bug/344079 at the top) and targetted for 0.36.3.
