impossible to type message or reply

Confirmed,on natty the latest webkitgtk version doesn't let you select the text entry area,so it's impossible to write the body.
As far as i know,this happens only with the latest,though..

This is a bug in WebKit, which has been fixed in trunk. Postler works as expected with webkit r84622.

I don't know when this bugfix going to hit Natty repos though. I tried to setup a daily build ppa for webkit, but that will take me some more time. In the mean time, if you're experiencing this issue, you can resolve it by:

download WebKit nightly source:
http://builds.nightly.webkit.org/files/trunk/src/WebKit-r84622.tar.bz2
(or just find the right link on the website)

extract, and run the following commands in the source directory:

sudo apt-get build-dep webkit
./autogen.sh
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig

and then restart postler:

killall postler
postler

Hi Timo, I was wondering if the webkit daily PPA was getting done or if some fix is underway for Natty.

Hernán: I haven't managed to do so yet. I wanted to use the launchpad "recipe" feature, but it imports the entire webkit source modification history (~30Gb) so it just takes to much time and bandwidth for me to properly write and test a recipe. Perhaps someone with more know-how about daily ppas (ie someone who knows how to do this without recipes) can help us out.

In the mean time, if you have difficulty following the above instructions, just let me know and I'll try to help you out.

Timo Kluck, give number bug for WebKitGTK+ 1.3.13 (Ubuntu 11.04) and I subscribe to it. In the ubuntu repositories to be normal package. let fix it in the repository.

Installing webkit nightly DID solve the issue, but it was a very long compiling time, it took about 40 min in my laptop to finish and my computer isn't slow at all. Anyway I'm happy I can finally compose message in Postler

Same problem, which is too bad because this thing looks damned impressive (and, though I can use the command line a bit, compiling is still a bit above me). I love Thunderbird, but I'm always looking for something simple and elegant.

Same here, installation from the PPA running an up-to-date copy of Ubuntu 11.04. It's odd, because I don't remember seeing anything like this during my brief stint with Elementary OS (good job there, but the power management + 2.6.38 kernel regression axed it for now).

I'm using Postler now in Natty and I can't write any reply at all.

Is there any progress made with this Bug ?

Ngassam Nkwenga: the new version of webkit will be in the upcoming version 11.10 of Ubuntu. Postler doesn't have this issue on the alpha version.

I haven't seen any activity on this on the webkit packaging front, so my guess is that we'll just have to wait for the Oneiric release.

Samuel: by 'source directory', I meant the one that contains the files that you extracted. It is the directory that contains the file named autogen.sh.

This issue still goes on for Oneiric, both dev and stable channels

Oneiric has been released and the bug is still there. I can't believe this. Downloading the latest webkit package so I can actually get this working.

To wrap this up: WebKitGTK+ 1.6.1 fixes it. Since it also breaks websites it's not useful to work around for the sake of it. The code will most likely be rewritten soon but updating WebKit is the right thing in any case. Hence, invalid.
