Bug Description

until recently, passwords stored by Firefox have worked fine, but in the past few days, they no longer work.
I've tried changing them on a couple of sites, and answering "yes" to Firefox's offer to remember them, then logged off and tried to log on again. A memorized password which appears to be the right length appears automatically, but is rejected.

Ubuntu Release 8.04
Linux Kernel 2.6.24-26 generic
Gnome 2.22.3
AMD64

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009102814 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.15

I must apologize, I'm unsure how to answer this, and also for having
listed the bug under Firefox Extension (Launchpad did not offer
"Firefox" as an option, and "Report a problem" connected me to
Launchpad, not Mozilla).

I have not initiated any changes deliberately since first installation,
so whatever is causing the problem comes from an automatic update, or
perhaps from malice (using Java to modify something?).

My plug-ins are listed in the attached screenshot.
The only extension listed is Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.5
Languages listed are Firefox (en-GB) 3.0.3 and Xulrunner (en-GB) 1.9.0.3

Another recent behaviour that is new and may be associated is that when
opened, Firefox sometimes defaults to a recently viewed page rather than
the specified home page.

Using firefox-3.5 since 3.0 is not receiving any updates other than security updates. I forgot 3.5 was not in Hardy repos so it will not get a fix for this. Closing this bug since only reporter shows this bug.
You should trya new profile before proceeding any further as it is likely cause or the sites you are going to can cause this (example Yahoo does this as far as i recall)
