Bug Description

I tried to install the nvidia driver for my geforce 7300 for feisty with automatix2. The computer refuses to rebot after that. The common nvidia driver (in "xorg.conf" kown as "nv") works, but mouse and keyboard are very very slow!

Contact with admins, and propose that ubuntu will support Automatix. Make a
request.

Hello!

Thanks for the quick answer!
The mouse and keyboard work proper now. Maybe it was just a
performance-problem. I downloaded the nvidia-driver from their homepage,
but the driver refuses to install because he does not find the kernel
source. But the kernel source is already installed!

Do you install that? build-essential, pkg-config, xserver-xorg-dev

edit the file "/etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common" and append this DISABLED_MODULES=”nv”
If you already install nvidia drivers do that:
sudo apt-get –purge remove nvidia-glx nvidia-settings
sudo rm /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx

and do the steps for install the file *.run from the nvidia page

Any way, there's a method much easy, search at google for "envy" it's an script that install the last driver

so if you don't understand previous posts I have to recommend you the easy way

go to http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
there somewhere on the bottom of the page you will find a link for
envy_0.9.7-0ubuntu8_all.deb ...I mean this one -> http://albertomilone.com/ubuntu/nvidia/scripts/envy_0.9.7-0ubuntu8_all.deb

download this file and click / doubleclick on the file after the download is complete
...follow instructions on the screen

Finally, Compiz should work after reboot.
