Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Distribution: Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper)
Package: Evolution
Severity: enhancement
Version: GNOME2.14.3 2.6.x
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Missing "export" feature
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Calendar
Bugzilla-Version: 2.6.x
Description:
Evolution is missing an (gui) "export" feature. That is, I should at least be
able to export my calendar events in iCal or CSV format for use in
google / yahoo / outlook etc. Without an export feature, Evolution locks
up a calendar user to itself much in the same way proprietary software does.

Thanks for your bug. When right clicking on a calendar from the sidebar evolution has a "Save to Disk" option which allow to store the calendar to a .ics, or .csv or .rdf. What else do you expect?

Hmm, I tried right clicking on everything but that one :)
I would expect it to be under File -> Export (MS-based mail clients[*] usually put it there). Is there anyway to get this as a feature request?

Thanks for the fast reply.

[*] A number of ubuntu users are those who switch from Windows. So such a menu entry would be a usability issue I believe. It's similar to the pop-up "what do you want to do with your blank CD" dialogue in Ubuntu when you put in a blank CD. It's not necessary, but makes adapting a little easier.

I'd expect to have a tool to Import and Export ALL my calendars by just one click-click without the need to go through umpty screens asking for names etc for the calendars.

I have two Ubuntu desktops and three Ubuntu laptops, two M$W laptops plus some PDA and Symbian phones with calendars. I would appreciate, if I could make a copy of my calendars to another PC with USB stick, to my own servers over lines and over Bluetooth to the PDA and phones.

Going many times through the Import / Save screens is not what I expect of a modern calendar system.
In the future I hope I find a menu for personally built Import/Export/Publish/Get_Published/Sync profiles.

I too desperately need a more capable Calendar export tool!!!
I would need it to include the search/selection criteria abilities of the Advanced search tool as well as field/column selection/inclusion capabilities.
'really looking forward to this!!!

An existing example for the Windows - Outlook world would be the "CodeTwo Outlook Export"

CodeTwo Outlook Export is an easy to use free tool for exporting data from Microsoft Outlook to CSV text files, which can later be imported into many different programs and systems. It is faster, easier to use and can export more data than the built-in export Outlook feature. It also gives you the ability of exporting user-defined fields from Outlook.

I am trying to migrate completely from Windows OS & Apps to Linux, but I need this functionality for billing purposes.

I would greatly appreciate this!!!

Here it is 08-09-2012, more than 2 years from my last post pleading for a functional export tool for Evolution Calendar tasks & events. Still no progress...
I am begging again...
Please add capability to export from Evolution calendar all of the fields for a selected group of events in csv format.
eg. After you have generated a list of events using the event search/query tool, the next logical step would be to export that set of events, but no such capability exists.
Please....

This bug is a request for a new feature and has already been sent upstream (see the link to the Gnome-bug 356551 at the top of the page). It's up to upstream developers to implement the new feature, or to someone interested to provide a patch for review and inclusion by the developers.

I'm unassigning desktop-bugs -- as far as I know that's just something that remains from previous workflows for bugs -- the team is subscribed to this bug report already. Since nobody is currently working on this that we know of, there shouldn't be an assignee.
