For Dexter you don't need to take in consideration the code in trunk, wich is not in development, but you need to consider this branch lp:~mefrio-g/dexter-rolodex/dexter-vala

The widget is available alone but it would be even easier if you make your app a child of Granite Application.

i don't have this with cairo-dock. Sound like a plank bug. The dock shouldn't show the dialog windows.
