Bug Description

Running 8.04 with EnvyNG, suddenly I can't get any video playback in totem (I can hear sounds fine, but just get a black screen in totem). Video playback reappears when I turn off all visual effects. Had no such issues using the restricted driver from Ubuntu. My graphics card is an ATI X800XL.

This is weird since (currently) EnvyNG is using Ubuntu's packages.

Can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

I would also like to see your /var/log/envy-installer.log

linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-17-generic is already the newest version.

I already have the restricted modules - I can see the video fine if I turn off the visual effects. I didn't have to take this step before installing envy though.

EnvyNG only reinstalled the same driver and edited your xorg.conf therefore I don't know what might have changed the behaviour of the driver.

Maybe you can try the new release of the driver (available through the next release of envyng-core) as soon as it's available in the updates for the stable release.

OK, strange. Will wait for the next version, thanks. Incidentally, if I drag the window around, I can usually make out one frame before the screen goes black.

Same problem here, with compiz the video starts blinking. The problem started after installing the upgrade of Envy from the repository.. but before the installation of the new ATI drivers. Turning off compiz everything it's ok.

Ciao e grazie! :)
