Messaging menu online status differs from Empathy's

Bug Description
Not sure if this is due to a problem with Empathy, indicator-applet or something in between.
See attached photo (note: screenshot doesn't work so I had to take a poorly-focused photograph on my phone camera).
As you can see from the photo, Empathy has its status set to Available, whereas the status in the messaging menu is Offline.
