Bug Description

After fresh-installation of Loki, my AlpsPS/2 Dualpoint Touchpad has a bug. Whenever I place my finger on the Touchpad, the cursor 'jitters' or 'jumps.

The cursor also moves when my finger is almost 1 mm above the touchpad and has not yet touched it.

This bug also exists with synaptic touchpads.

The touchpad's sensitivity was very good in Freya but too high (almost unusable) in Loki.

Confirmed because the bug was reported by other people but it was misunderstood and marked as "Won't Fix" by Daniel Fore, but it is an important and annoying bug.

Please pay a little attention to the bug description before ignoring it.

It isn't helpful to open a second ticket. It just creates work for bug filing. If anything you should make your case in the existing thread and link this report to that one. Also it's bad practice to mark your own bugs as confirmed—let a second person verify the complaint.

It seems the problem is made by switching to "libinput"; Since it was not existed in Freya, and there are other reports by people from other distros (e.g. Arch) switching form synaptics to libinput, having exactly the same problem.

Although the problem might be in libinput, performing some patches to control the sensitivity, or switching to another replacement for libinput should be considered; Since the touchpad is unusable in the current state for many users.

By "patch" I mean something like synaptic's noise-cancellation feature.

The issue is with libinput. I don't think Elementary team can do anything about it. I've filed a bug report there if anyone's interested.
