I think we have discussed this bug a few times before.
Basically, after login, you are looking at an empty wallpaper for about 1-2 minutes until Plank and Wingpanel show up.
It seems like it's waiting for a certain timeout or something. I don't know where to find the logs for the session, to have a look around.
