Web/videos option fails with "Could not apply changes. Fix broken packages first"

Can you try again after a "sudo apt-get install -f"

Hi. No difference. The command line output looks like:

I selected the following:

Multimedia - Codecs, Binary Codecs, libdvdcss, MIDI

System - Repository List, Fonts.

I have the same problem.

After trying the version from CVS, which actually indicates which packages are being installed, I narrowed it down by using apt-get --

$ sudo apt-get install totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin
(SNIP)
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin: Depends: totem-gstreamer (= 1.4.1-0ubuntu4) but 1.4.3-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
$

Fixed in breezy package list already, should be in nightly. anyone care to test?

Relatively new/novice linux user here..

I just did a new install of Dapper. I was having the same issues as stated above...which brought me here. Troubleshot by trying a manual install of the 'Totem-Firefox' plugin from synaptic and got the same message above about the version number of the depend package.

I installed everything from EasyUbuntu except the Videos option (also skipped Skype,OpenWego, and Nvidia drivers). It all installed fine. Tryed Nightly Snapshot (was I suppose to?) and it failed with the same 'broken packages' message.

So sounds like that is still an issue....

Any advice is welcomed!

This issue still exists, but it does not appear to be an easyubuntu issue. The issue is the totem-gstreamer 1.4.3-0ubuntu1 that is installed on many people's computers, but appears to be greater than the Dapper version:

WORK AROUND

$sudo apt-get remove totem-gstreamer

A new Linux user here. Yes, I too have the "broken packages" syndrome. And this is a fresh Ubuntu install. Today. Just 6 hours ago.

I can't install web streaming video, nor ATI drivers. Broken packages, dontcha know.

I've done a lot of searching and reading, trying this and that. There's a lot of information out there, that's for sure. I've heard that getting ATI video cards to run well on Linux just about requires a PHD in Linuxology. I'm beginning to believe.

Once I get the drivers installed, I bet it'll take a 2nd degree just to get the card configured correctly and functioning fully. It's an ATI All-in-Wonder 9700 Pro - pretty much the top card 2 - 3 years ago. I've had real good luck with it in Windows. I'd sure like to get similar performance out of it in Linux/Ubuntu.

I play some UT2004 now and then. I've talked to guys who are using Linux systems and they told me they're getting great fps and everything else. As good as Windows. I hope I'll be able to say the same at some point.

So, If anyone happens to have a similar card and they're gaming with their Linux box, and they're getting great performance, I'd like to hear how you tweaked your graphics.
