Bug Description

After the latest Do-Plugins update (now running Do-0.8.2+dfsg, Do-Plugins-0.8.2+dfsg), the Firefox plugin throws up this error:
[Debug 16:54:07.625] [UniverseManager] Reloading item source "Firefox Places"...
Firefox.PlacesItemSource "Firefox Places" encountered an error in UpdateItems: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

And if I type in a bookmark name into Do, it shows up as "A Firefox Bookmarks Directory" under the bookmark's name, without any appropriate actions available.

Was working fine before the latest Do-Plugins update btw.

I'm running into this bug as well (same symptoms, same error). Oddly enough however, when I tried to reproduce it on another account on the same machine, everything worked fine. I then went through (what I hoped was) a pretty standard troubleshooting routine to see if I could narrow everything down:

1) I quit Do.
2) I exported my bookmarks using the backup tool in the Firefox bookmark organiser.
3) I created a clean Firefox profile and imported my bookmarks from the backup file.
4) I made a backup of my main Firefox profile, then removed the profile.
5) I made a backup of ~/.local/share/gnome-do/, then removed the folder.
6) I started Do again.

Searching for any of my bookmarks still resulted in the same symptoms and errors. I'm no expert, but would I be right in supposing that this means the issue is with my bookmarks themselves? I could attach a copy of the backup file or my places.sqlite if that would be of any help.

I have this problem also. Additionally also none of the Internet related plugins seem to work, e.g. Google Calculator, Google Contacts...
Never used Gnome-Do before so I don't know if it would have worked earlier. I am running 9.10 with the latest updates.

Like Aaron (#3) I got this same error after switching from Jaunty to Karmic; I did a fresh install though, but I have a separate home partition that I did not alter in the process.

Unlike with schaze, Google Calculator works fine for me.

And a last note: the preference window shows a cross for Firefox instead of the logo you would expect.

I have the same cross instead of firefox logo for the firefox plugin in the preferences window. Additionally, the Open Search plugin only has two search engines (PHP and MySQL, both of which i probably added manually somewhere a long time ago). I feel like that's probably related, as in my Firefox search engine dropdown, I have lots of search engines.

I tried moving the ~/.local/share/gnome-do aside, and starting do again, and it still has the same problems.

this breaks with Fx 7.x so this bug should probably be closed and tell people "do not use the firefox plugin" :D at least until the plugin is updated to support the fast-moving Firefox releases.
