Bug Description

1. Go to <https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/>.
2. Choose “New snap”.

What happens:
1. You’re redirected to an URL containing “click-apps/”.
2. The URL contains “click-apps/”.

What should happen:
1. Either you are not redirected, or the final URL does not contain “click-apps/”.
2. The URL does not contain “click-apps/”.

This may leave developers thinking that they’re on the wrong page, especially since we’re trying to communicate the transition from click to snap. And software developers are, probably, more likely than most people to pay attention to URLs.

This is a twist on the age-old rule, don’t include technology-specific stuff in URLs unless the resource is specifically about that technology. Normally this applies to CMSes (“.php”, “.cfm”, “.aspx”, etc), and ubuntu.com avoids those mistakes extremely well. But here it’s happened with packaging formats.

summary: - URLs for snaps include “click-apps/”
+ URLs for snap store include “click-apps/”

Michael Nelson (michael.nelson) wrote :

The original implementation (for debs) was tech-agnostic, redirecting to "apps/", but then clicks were added to the store and unfortunately differentiated from the existing "apps/" with the prefix you see. Then snaps were added as extension of clicks (store devs didn't push back hard enough and time constraints won out).

We're addressing this soon by separating the click and snap store, at which point we can improve the URLs.
