Difficult to sync metadata translations with gettext translations

Bug Description

In myapps.developer.ubuntu.com you can set translations for metadata by entering the translated values in the UI. My applications use gettext / Launchpad to source translation data - this then has to be manually copied into these fields. Ideally there'd be some method that could automate / help with this.

Ideas off the top of my head:
- The translations could be extracted on app upload.
- You could upload the .po files in the web form.
- You could upload a file with the transltions (JSON?). This could be generated from the gettext files.
- There would be an API that a script could use to update the translations.

I use the "Name", "Comment" and "Keywords" values in the .desktop file for the "Application name", "Description" and "Keywords" metadata fields.
