Dell Mini Update Manager does not display packages to be updated

Bug Description

The version of update manager with the Dell Mini 9 Netbook does not display the packages that will be updated. This may be due to a different version of the update manager for the Netbook. . I appreciate the small dialog panel with the smaller screen, but there are instances when I need to know what packages will be updated. For example, had I known the recent package was going to resize my partition to correct the 4 gig problem, I would have not installed the package because I was planning partitioning myself.

Please provide an option to display "Details".

The modified interface was intended as a simplification for the general consumer.

The version in the remix version in the dell-mini repos has full list. It would be good to have an option to display the updates (kept off by default) in case someone wants to see it. this can be done with a "more info button".

The version of update-manager distributed with the Dell Mini 9 is different than the version in Ubuntu and the version of update-manager in Ubuntu proper does not exhibit this bug. Subsequently, I am invalidating the the Ubuntu task for this bug report. This is still a task open on the Dell Mini Project though.

Is there a work-around for this, like installing the official ubuntu update-manager package somehow, or using the cli? I think it's highly irresponsible to install updates with absolutely NO knowledge of what is happening!

I propose that this be moved from "Wishlist" to at least "Medium". I just checked and there are system updates available. There are 167.2 megs of updates available but I need to see what they are. There are important security updates that I want to install, but there are also problems that I do not want to introduce to my system. Overall it has been running fine.

If it is not changed, can someone please tell me another way to work around this problem? Is there a command I can run that will show the updates and allow me to choose?

From the command line:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

This will list all the updates, asking you if you wnat to proceed with the installation.
