Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

System --> Preferences --> Keyboard Shortcuts

I think it's the only shortcut key that doesn't work yet I find it very convenient on older versions of GNOME. This regression exists in Ubuntu 9.10 and Debian Squeeze (both GNOME 2.28 at the time of posting). I tested this on Ubuntu i386 and Debian amd64 so, the bug exists in both and it would be great if the changes could be made upstream for all the distros to benefit.

Thanks for your time.

P.S. I think the package is udev for hotkeys but if it's not please redirect this bug to the appropriate section. Also, the Upstream GNOME and Debian projects seem to have ignored my similar bug reports but I hadn't filed it as udev because I did not know and after reading something here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage, I think I finally found the correct package to file the bug in.

Hi gamingtechnology,

Thanks for including the attached files. Could you also include your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) from after reproducing the issue?

Sorry for the late response; is it okay if I provide that information from an Ubuntu live cd (because Squeeze now has problems and it won't even open any of those preference windows and I don't have Ubuntu version 9.10 installed on any hard drive)? The windows DO open in sid but still have the described problem in this bug.

Given that no one answered my question, enough time passed for Debian Squeeze to update its packages from sid so I can now open the keyboard shortcut preferences window but I still can't use either one of my super user keys as my "open a terminal" shortcut.

I attached my /var/log/Xorg.0.log and my /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old files as a .odt file.

I think I might be experiencing this problem as well, though only my left super key has stopped working.

s3a, could you please try running the following command in a terminal:

xev

pressing your super keys, and watch if the program writes something to the terminal, and attach the output?

Also, could you post the output of the following command:

xprop -root
