I've gone ahead and bought the GA-Z77X-UD5H (from Amazon UK). I've got the later version (RAM slots equally spaced, purple capacitors and Nvidia SLI and ATI Crossfire logos are near the PCIe slots instead of next to the CPU socket.
I'll try using the standard ALSA drivers first, but if I can't get the sound to work properly I'll give the official Realtek drivers a go. Have you tried the Realtek drivers?
It will take me a couple of weeks or so to build my new computer and test the drivers and I'll post the results here.
