Bug Description

The version of Gwibber in the 8.10 version of #1 is very old. I understand that development of this version is no longer happening as the the new development is being worked on the Jaunty version of #!. The latest version of Gwibber in Jaunty is 0.8.0 however the latest is 0.9.1. It would be nice if the Jaunty version of #! included the latest version of Gwibber via the PPA for it. This is important as the 0.9.1+ version of Gwibber has some support for url shortening when using twitter etc.

This was discussed on the #! forums here:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/16706/

Summary, use the launchpad PPA for Gwibber to include the latest version of Gwibber with the install and so it automatically updates when doing a system update. Also, the #! theme for Gwibber that is bundled with the #! 8.10 release works just fine with Gwibber 0.9.1 so I think you don't have to bundle a customized version of Gwibber as you do now, just add the PPA for Gwibber and bundle in the #! theme for Gwibber.

Thank you for the report. A separate package for the custom Gwibber theme has already been produced for the Jaunty series of CrunchBang and will be shipped as you have stated.

Regarding the inclusion of PPAs, some thought needs to be put into this. Technically it is not a big issue to configure APT to use certain PPAs, the issue is whether or not it is actually a good idea to do so. It would be good if we could encourage some discussion around this.

Thanks again for the report.

Since I'm a "newbie", I'd be curious to hear the pros / cons of adding the PPA for Gwibber as I don't have a frame of reference to really do any insightful arguing or oratory on this subject.
